In the basement, Cardozo has invited two great friends –Fabián Oliver (Montevideo, 1964) and Álvaro Zinno (Montevideo, 1958)– to work on a collective installation that invades the space: La Tempestad (2025). In it, each artist undergoes a journey into the subconscious through their chosen medium: Cardozo works with painting and gestures; Oliver, sound; and Zinno, light.

Here we are invited to descend into the subconscious, where we can explore our fears and uncertainties. We are entering a dreams-cape, a network of branches, belts and cables that intertwine and merge, a kind of strange, mysterious forest.

In this concave space, with its round edges and smooth surfaces, lines and gestures flow freely. Discourse has no place, words are superfluous. Everything becomes a proto-form: the state prior to form. It is the moment before an artwork is conceived: gestational chaos.

The intention is to inhabit, if only for a moment, this timeless space where everything seems to have come to a pause other than the sound that sets the beat and movement. These organic, corporeal noises emerge from a tape recorder that gets entangled and lost in a writhing column.

This apparently static, uninhabited scene embodies a kinetic energy that runs throughout the interlocking branches. The central axis and point of genesis cast their light and power out to the edges, where traces of human thought remain: graphite strokes on the walls, the colonnade of books, and the bodily murmur that fades with every step.
